Nature Education’s Scitable has an ongoing series highlighting bioethical dilemmas and controversies related to advances in human genetics. “Genetics Generation” presents case studies (along with opinion polls which can be such a great teaching tool) related to subjects like Huntington’s Disease, testing children for sports ability, and genetic discrimination. Teachers using pgEd’s lesson plans – all which also tackle these topics – might find these case studies and the questions they bring up a nice launching point or even a homework piece to extend a pgEd lesson, or of course as stand-alone pieces as well!
