Curricula on Genetics and Ethics

PGED’s goal is to engage students in the exciting and complex issues in personal genetics.

We create curriculum and develop workshops to bring the cutting edge of genetics and the associated ethical, legal, and social implications into classrooms. Our curricula inspire curiosity and reflection through stories of people impacted by new medical treatments and real-world ethical dilemmas, giving students the opportunity to see the relevance of science to their lives. Our materials include ready-to-use lesson plans, self-directed mini lessons, and video recordings of our most favorite lessons, and are relevant to multiple subjects, including biology, health, social studies, law, physical education and psychology.

Professional Development

PGED organizes interactive professional development workshops that explore the content and model the activities within our curricula. We offer workshops, ranging from a 1-2 hour session to a 3-day course, for which we award professional development points.

In addition to professional development workshops, we also periodically offer webinars that explore bringing personal genetics into classrooms. Recordings of past webinars can be found in our resource hub.

We have staff in Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut, and Washington, DC, and we may be available to visit your classroom in person or via video call.
