Personal Genetics Education and Dialogue CC BY Copyright Policy Statement 

Personal Genetics Education & Dialogue (“PGED”) is a program based at Harvard Medical School to raise awareness and foster curiosity, dialogue, and reflection about genetics. PGED staff (“we”) maintain this website (www.pged.org) to provide free public access to a wide range of materials, including lesson plans, informal education resources, videos, and other media and information.

 

Creative Commons

As of August 2024, we are applying Creative Commons licenses to most new content including lesson plans, infographics and images created by PGED. However, in addition to PGED materials, our web pages provide access to older materials and materials developed in collaboration with others. Copyright or licensing restrictions on such content may vary. Please check the suggested attribution on any individual resources, and contact us at pged@pged.med.harvard.edu with any questions about copyright or the use of our materials.

 

Terms and Attribution

The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license allows anyone to share and adapt the licensed content as long as they give credit for the original creation and follow the license terms. For PGED resources with this license, attribution should be given as ”Personal Genetics Education and Dialogue © [YEAR] President and Fellows of Harvard College (CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0).”

 

What content is included under the CC BY license?

When a PGED page or resource is labeled as “CC BY-NC-SA 4.0”, the license applies to any textual content that is created by PGED staff for the PGED program, where the President and Fellows of Harvard College holds the copyright, and that appears on a PGED web page that displays the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 icon, unless it falls within an exception listed below.  Any image, infographic, or video covered under a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license will include the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 icon and/or a notation and link within the document or video and on the download page.

 

What is not included under the CC BY license?

The following material appearing on a PGED web page or resource displaying the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 icon is not included:

  • Any quotations from works created by third parties 
  • Any Harvard shield or logo, and any Harvard name used as a trademark
  • Articles, letters, books, and other works of external authorship that may be referenced or cited in our licensed resources
  • Photographs, images, sound recordings, audiovisual works, and any other non-textual content, unless any such item of non-textual content bears its own CC BY icon or citation.
  • Any content that is linked to from a web page displaying the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 icon but is not set forth on that page
  • Any other content that is excluded from the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license in the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 footer or elsewhere on the web page

Content on pages without a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 icon is not licensed under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.

 

Use of Harvard Name or Logo

The users of any web page content may not suggest or imply that PGED or Harvard endorse, approve of, or participated in their projects. Harvard’s name may not be used in the title or the name of any product or work, and may not be used as a metadata search term or as part of a website name or web address, or be large or prominent. The use of the Harvard name or trademarks for any purpose other than standard source citation requires the prior approval of the Harvard University Trademark Program.
