Thank you to the wonderful students at Brunswick High School. Maine is considered a leader in STEM education, and its clear that is the case based on some of the questions and comments I got yesterday while talking with a group of sophomores (and a handful of seniors) about ethical issues in genetics. We specifcally looked at athletics and crime as two areas where there are many opportunities to explore the benefits and risks of new technologies.
There were a few video clips I didn’t get to share. One is from the lesson we’ve recently developed on crime and DNA technology. ” A Not So Perfect Match” from 60 Minutes can be seen here. Also, we talked briefly about Nic Volker (it was Rare Disease Day, after all). The article about Nic and his treatment is great, don’t miss the video clips that go along with his story – a story that continues to inspire.
Thank you again to Mrs. Dumont’s and Mrs. Kirk’s students!
