ONLINE – Ice Age Meets Jurassic Park: Stories of De-extinction in Real Life and On-Screen (collaboration with SIE Society)
June 22, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
We used to believe that extinct species were gone forever. New advances in genetic science are challenging that idea. Woolly mammoths, Tasmanian tigers, dodo birds, and other lost species may soon roam the earth once more with the power of genetic technology. Filmmakers and storytellers will hear directly from the scientists leading the charge about why they are trying to resurrect the woolly mammoth, and contemplate the potential ethical, social, and environmental impacts of this conservation project. Additionally, a leader in the entertainment will provide tips for telling sci-fi stories in a responsible yet nuanced way that captures an audience’s imagination and inspires.
