SUMMARY:ONLINE – PGED Educator Workshop on Personal Genetics in Society
DESCRIPTION:Personal genetics can impact our lives in many ways. This workshop will explore personal genetics’s societal implications. \nThis workshop includes both asynchronous\, module-based learning and live course chats via Zoom with a total course load of an estimated 10 hours. We will meet via Zoom on Monday\, July 15 & July 22 from 3-5 pm Eastern. \nAttendees will receive PGED curriculum and learn how to integrate discussions of ethical\, social\, and legal implications of personal genetics into their classrooms. SUMMARY:JAX Teaching the Genome Generation (TtGG) Educator Professional Development Workshops – Brunswick\, Maine
DESCRIPTION:TtGG staff offer a one-week\, residential\, paid short course to teachers living and teaching in New England states. The hands-on course allows teachers the opportunity to perform molecular biology and bioinformatics experiments in the teaching laboratory. Lively discussions of social\, ethical\, and legal topics in personal genetics are woven into all aspects of the course. Teachers are provided training in NGSS-aligned\, inquiry-based lessons that can be implemented (in whole or in part) within their biology curricula. Access to all lesson plans and curricular materials is made freely available to all participants for use in their classes. \nRegistration for the summer TtGG Short Course is closed.
